The Aims of the US Foreign Policy and the Realities of the War on Terror
Publication date: 2002-11-11

How War on Terror is Advancing the Aims of the American Foreign Policy?

The Introduction to the The National Security Strategy of the United States of America Report (September 2002) begins with the following paragraph:

“The great struggles of the twentieth century between liberty and totalitarianism ended with a decisive victory for the forces of freedom and a single sustainable model for national success: freedom, democracy, and free enterprise. In the twenty‐first century, only nations that share a commitment to protecting basic human rights and guaranteeing political and economic freedom will be able to unleash the potential of their people and assure their future prosperity. People everywhere want to be able to speak freely; choose who will govern them; worship as they please; educate their children male and female; own property; and enjoy the benefits of their labor. These values of freedom are right and true for every person, in every society and the duty of protecting these values against their enemies is the common calling of freedom‐loving people across the globe and across the ages.”

And achievement of these values is the main aim of the US foreign policy.

The main operational component of the US foreign policy is “War on Terror”, which has been in progress for over a year. Let us see how this “War on Terror” has been advancing Mankind towards the aims of the US Foreign Policy of ensuring that “people everywhere speak freely; choose who will govern them; worship as they please; educate their children male and female; own property; and enjoy the benefits of their labor”.

The main battles in the “War on Terror” raging at present are in Chechnya and Palestine.

In Palestine people can say whatever they want, but it has no influence on their life whatsoever. They can chose their government, but in practice they are under Israeli occupation. Their schools are being destroyed and the children are prevented from going to schools by Israeli curfews. Their houses, shops, factories, farms, and olive groves are being destroyed. They are prevented from going about their own business to create and enjoy the benefits of their own labor.

In Chechnya the Russians have imposed their own government and have been destroying Chechen houses and public buildings, looting Chechen property, and killing, torturing and raping Chechen men, women and children. And now President Putin announced that Chechnya will be absorbed into the Russian Federation without any prospect for independence.

How are these “War on Terror” campaigns advancing the aims of the American foreign policy?
